Facts, Answers and Questions
This section is more of for questions people may have in regards to this site. It uses dropdown boxes to reveal answers to questions...
What is the purpose of this wiki?
The purpose of this wiki is to address the inaccuracies found in other wikis but also more of a personal project to work on because OS-tans are my curse... and my hyperfixation, I think, as I never shut up about them. Of course, this may not always be the case as it is based on my own research and IP-restricted sources I have access to.
Who created and maintains this wiki?
This wiki was created and is maintained by Sinclair-Speccy.
What's up with the settings page and why is it like that?

What sources are used for the information on this wiki?
The information on this wiki is primarily based on the research conducted by me, as well as other wikis and places.
How accurate is the information on this wiki?
While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information, it should be acknowledged that it may not be 100% correct. As you translate some of the sources used for research you might notice OS-tans are flexible on Futaba Channel. What I mean by this is the fact while some details are consistent, others are not and are listed as canon at other places, even if not stated that the information is posed as canon.
Everyone contributed to making OS-tans at Futaba and everyone's idea of them will vary, removing things they don’t like and adding things they prefer. These headcanons (or different ideas for a character) will end up on other wikis such as the Japanese ones without any actual source, yet some of these other wikis and sites are listed in "other links" on characters for the sake of having them listed anyway.
A lot is left to interpretation like other fandoms (Touhou & Vocaloid), older threads from Futaba are gone (as older ones are deleted) so we will never know what was truly intended of their creators and some sources are IP-restricted.
All of this is why the information on this wiki is based upon observing artworks, looking at the IP-restricted content with a VPN and the other wikis/sources. People should consider this wiki as a valuable resource as every other source but not an absolute authority. People should also remember that OS-tans vary across person with interpretation and design.
Why is there a focus on the legacy Futaba OS-tans?
"Legacy" is a term that can refer to many OS-tans from the early days. My interest primarily lies in the original OS-tans that emerged during the early fandom period. For me, "Legacy" spans from the early 2000s until the early 2010s.
Characters like Futanana, Battenichi, Ten-chan, and 11-chan may fall outside this focus as they represent newer additions to the OS-tan lineup, they do not interest me and this is when the Madobe characters were more popular. Some of these characters might technically be considered part of the Legacy OS-tans. My primary aim is to create a comprehensive resource centered on the legacy Futaba OS-tans. For those looking for information on the newer Futaba characters, other wikis might be more suitable.
How can I contribute to or edit this wiki?
At this time, contributions and edits are managed by me, but I guess you can suggest changes or additions by contacting me through Discord or other places like my email on my main site.
What is the "Settings" section and what does it contain?
The "Settings" section contains detailed information about the OS-tan characters. It is divided into two main categories: "Futaba Channel" and "+Nijiura+," each containing entries for their respective characters.
Where can I find information on specific OS-tan characters?
Information on specific OS-tan characters can be found under the "Settings" tab. From there, you can choose either "Futaba Channel" or "+Nijiura+" to view entries listed in order from the oldest to the latest OS.
What are the differences between the "Futaba Channel" and "+Nijiura+" sections?
The "Futaba Channel" section focuses on characters from the Futaba Channel community, while the "+Nijiura+" section covers characters from the +Nijiura+ community.
How are the characters organised within each section?
Characters within each section are listed in order from the oldest to the latest OS. Some entries may include the character's debut date in the infobox, based on the earliest known appearance found during research.
What kind of information is included in each character's entry?
Each character's entry includes detailed information about their characteristics, debut dates, appearances, associations, notes, images, and links to other resources.
How are debut dates determined for each character?
Debut dates are determined based on the earliest known appearance of the character that could be found during research. These dates are included in the infobox of each entry and linked under "other links."
What kind of research was done to gather information on the OS-tans?
The research involved examining existing wikis and other available sources to information about OS-tans.
What happened to having that one Japanese wiki mentioned on each page, and here?
After thinking about it for a while I decided that it was for the best for me to not have it at all due to them not wanting to be linked back to. Even if I was to mention a character has an article there and mention how to get back to it is that not linking back without linking back? IIRC in the past with either Netrunner or Deja Vu they had unwanted attention flood Futaba Channel because of OS-tans.
If you want some "backstory" or whatever when the English-speaking part of the fandom finally found this wiki via Pixiv, I don't think anyone put into consideration about why this wiki was "hidden" for a reason. The Nijiura community and I guess Futaba Channel in general is also known for being closed off so there was some sort of reason as to why it took forever to find it, and no one thought much of the disclaimer on the front page until after forever, especially if you read the "about this wiki" part there since it talks about wanting to work on it as secretly as possible to the point it was said you can't view it on a phone.
It feels more respectful not having anything from there at all, at least to me. Why take info from elsewhere that you can't even link back to because they want to stay hidden? I need to double check all the pages but for now on each entry where it says a character has an entry there, it has been removed...
I know some people will call me a hypocrite for having like the Futaba★Rainbow Board wiki and Nijiura Character Dictionary but in the case of these two, they are no longer online so no actual traffic goes there. It goes to the wayback machine instead. I know someone will end up going "but couldn't you just link back to that hidden wiki via the wayback machine" and well... all I can say is that would be a scummy move to try since they are still online.
Are there any plans to expand the wiki to include newer Futaba characters?
Currently, the focus is on legacy Futaba OS-tans, but there are no plans to include newer characters as well due to my lack of interest in them. People are encouraged to check other wikis for information on newer Futaba characters.
What are the key differences between the legacy Futaba OS-tans and the newer ones?
Legacy Futaba OS-tans are the original characters from the early days of the Futaba Channel, while newer ones are more recent additions.
Can I find information on OS-tan characters from series like Touhou or Vocaloid on this wiki?
This wiki primarily focuses on OS-tan characters, but comparisons to other series like Touhou or Vocaloid are made to highlight similarities in character interpretation.
What is the r/OStan subreddit wiki and how does it relate to this wiki?
The r/OStan subreddit wiki was meant to only be concise but ended up expanding more when it wasn't meant to from me seeing other wikis and realising things...
Why does this wiki not intend to replace other existing wikis?
This wiki does not intend to replace other existing wikis because each wiki has its own unique value and perspective. This wiki is meant to complement other resources by providing additional detail and a different perspective based on personal research.
How often is the information in this wiki updated?
The frequency of updates to this wiki depends on the availability of new information and my capacity to update.
Why is X on this site as a other link when you don’t like X?
This is something I don’t really like talking about however in all honesty… while I may dislike OSC for its Annex project due to canon and fanon not really being split apart properly, it is an example of how an entirely different community from the other side of the world can take what already exists (Futaba's works) and expand on it in its own ways. It took me until 2024 to come to this conclusion. Of course you have to overlook the glaring issues such as glurge.
So yes while I dislike OSC, on the other hand it is an example of the creative side from a different community and is going to be on the site regardless. I guess you can say it is useful in its own ways for what it is an example of.
