98-tan, also known as Hacchan, is the personification of Windows 98. Her character design evolved from a simple boxy figure to her current form, though she is often depicted with the Vulcan box figure as a toy or a mech suit she can control. The box sizes can vary, ranging from doll-like when carried by her to taller than an adult when she rides inside it. While usually used as toys or weapons, the boxes can serve other purposes, such as a clubhouse, a shelter, or a place to hide.
Appearance
98-tan is a small pre-teen girl with short navy blue hair, a "98" hair clip, and blue eyes. She wears a white sleeveless shirt, a pleated miniskirt, long gloves, and dark shoes. She is often seen carrying or interacting with a blue mech-box.
According to the Trouble Windows OS-tan Fan Book, her design came about in January 2004 alongside most others as early January was the most heated period of the Futaba festival.
