Character

Saba-tan personifies Windows Server 2003. She is depicted as a half-girl, half-fish character, reflecting the pun in her name, which sounds similar to the Japanese word for mackerel. Originally depicted in a mackerel costume, Saba-tan evolved into a half-fish character as OS-tans gained popularity. She is known for being constantly pursued by cats, a running gag due to her fish-like nature.

Appearance

Saba-tan typically appears as a girl with a fish tail, often wearing a short white skirt and a vest-style top with Windows four-square logo pins. She may also have a belt made from an Ethernet cable wrapped around her waist and has an Ethernet hub accessory on her head,

According to the Trouble Windows OS-tan Fan Book, Saba appeared around the same time as Saseko's 2nd design and 98-tan.

  • Saba-tan's name is a pun on "server" and "mackerel" in Japanese.
  • She can seen in comics and artworks alongside other Server-tans, especially Windows 2000 Server. There is another design presumed to be Windows Server 2008 but it has never been confirmed.
